Vienna- Isaac's story

Oh, Isaac. At just under four years old when we left, there were many different ways our transatlantic trip could have gone. Besides that, Isaac was only two when we moved from Vienna to Minnesota so his memory was more limited than Alexander's.

Let's talk about just the flight getting to VIE. We were delayed and had a run around (literally) in the Chicago airport. Isaac wanted to be pushed in the stroller or carried at all times. Let's remember that everyone was sick when we left. Isaacs whining goes up significantly when he's under the weather. We were literally the last people to board our flight in Chicago for Vienna. Isaac decided this is a great time to throw an ultimate tantrum- kicking, screaming, crying, the works! Really, it's how I felt inside but leave it to the 3 year old to let it out! We finally got him calmed down (smart mama packed mini play dohs-Isaacs favorite sensory activity!). Then Isaac slept the flight away. Ahhhh.

We hit the ground running and took the boys to the zoo the first day there! We saw everyone's favorite animals. Isaac was adjusting alright but was having meltdowns all the time. That night, tony took him out for a date to our old favorite Asian restaurant.. Well that's just what Isaac needed. Our "quality time" boy needed papa's undivided attention and that's what he got. Isaac came back totally refreshed.

Isaac had a ball in Vienna! Running around the garden, visiting the museum, riding the bus- all were adventures to him. It was great for us to have Unkie there as well, because he provided entertainment when it was needed. :) (the boys discovered a meteorite in the garden. I didn't get a picture, darn! But it was magical and would leave coins for them.)! Isaac even enjoyed watching the cartoons in German, which I was pleased about even if he didn't understand it all. Isaac was a little nervous to visit his Urli, but did enjoy seeing her collection of stuffed animals. He actually "borrowed" one for our stay there, and named him "biscuits."

Although Isaac often sported a grumpy face for the camera, he did great. I think his favorite day by far was the Prater! He asked if we could go there again right away!

Just last week Isaac proclaimed to me that he wanted to live in Vienna. Why, I asked..."because it's really fun there." This warmed my heart because a huge part of me wanted Vienna to leave a lasting impression with the kiddos. I think it most certainly did!
